Oceano Surf Collective was recently honored to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Oceano Surf Shack, a historic building now home to a vibrant surf shop that has chosen to stock our custom surfboards. The event was a momentous occasion, celebrating not only the opening of the shop but also the tight-knit coastal community that binds Oceano, Pismo Beach, and the surrounding areas together.

The ceremony was a testament to the rich history of surfing in this region, with community members and local businesses coming together in support. As the ribbon was cut, there was a shared sense of excitement for the future, as this surf shack represents a new chapter in Oceano’s surf culture. The historic building itself stands as a reminder of the past while being a cornerstone for the community’s evolving surf scene.

The Pismo Beach chamber of commerce was in full attendance, alongside a wide range of local businesspeople—including, of course, the hot sauce guy! As the evening transitioned, attendees gathered around a bonfire, enjoying the warmth of the flames and the company. Ted Rich, from Last Wave Originals, held circle with tales of California’s surfing golden age of the 1960s.  Sitting by the fire, listening to the wisdom of my elders, I reflected on the type of community I hope to build for my children—a future Halcyon here on the Central Coast, where the bonds of tradition and the spirit of togetherness endure.

For families, the event was a delight. My toddler made a quick discovery of the dessert table, and a lively game of spike ball added to the casual, playful atmosphere. Late September was the perfect time for the event—most tourists had left, leaving the locals to enjoy a relaxed Monday evening together.

The Oceano Surf Collective proudly sported their best Hawaiian shirts, embodying the laid-back style that our community is known for. The owners of the surf shack were equally impressive, speaking with passion about local surf history and their commitment to fostering that spirit moving forward. Their dedication to the culture was inspiring, and their energy set the tone for what promises to be an exciting chapter for surfers in the area.

For those seeking custom surfboards in Santa Barbara, Pismo Beach, Oceano, and Morro Bay, the Oceano Surf Collective is proud to offer high-quality, locally crafted boards that embody the spirit of our coastal community. Each board is shaped with the end user in mind, delivering a truly mind-altering surfing experience. We’re excited to see what the future holds for this new yet historic surf shop that proudly stocks some of our unique boards.
